She writes of the winery and the latest accolades, “But Fred Merwarth recently found himself in the spotlight when he was named winemaker of the year by Wine Enthusiast Magazine. She then gives a thorough overview of the history of the winery, and the many projects, both ongoing and those planned for the future, that Fred, Maressa, & Oskar have in the works. She writes, “The Wiemer Vine Nursery, which Wiemer started in 1974, sells plants around the country. This part of the business enables the winery to work on new varietals — to plant them, put them to the test of Finger Lakes winters and make them into wines. Merwarth is excited about what he’s seeing from some varietals from cold climate regions in Switzerland and Northern Italy.”
