Our journey with biodynamic farming over the last decade has been both rewarding and challenging. We have been incorporating biodynamic practices at our HJW Vineyard site since 2015 and received our Demeter Certification for our 33-acre vineyard in 2023. As we look towards expanding our efforts, we wanted to invite other regional growers and industry professionals from our vibrant Finger Lakes community into the conversation surrounding the sustainability, efficacy, and scalability of biodynamic farming. Our approach to biodynamics takes all of these factors into account, knowing firsthand what it takes to be successful. Join us for an afternoon of practical training in biodynamic farming practices where we will cover the basic principles and timely activities of biodynamic agriculture through the grape growing season. You'll have an opportunity to speak with our vineyard managers and walk through our vines, allowing for an experience to learn, question, and explore. This event is geared towards both growers and vineyard owners, as well as other members of the industry (winemaking, hospitality, marketing, sales) interested in expanding their knowledge of biodynamic farming! The event will be based in the vineyard and demonstrations will be given including: - making and using the biodynamic preparations - farming equipment used and maintained - compost and soil building - working with animals -Gain insight into the conversion process from conventional vineyard management to organic and biodynamic farming We'll end the afternoon with a sampling of our biodynamic wines and a Q&A. Feel free to submit questions ahead of time here. You'll take with you a planting calendar and a sample of horsetail tea to use in your own garden!
