The Library at Hermann J. Wiemer

Dec 20, 2024 | Events, Featured

Tucked away behind the tanks is a treasure trove for wine enthusiasts and history lovers alike – The Library at Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard, is a private tasting room that houses our library collection. The Library is a gateway to our rich history of winemaking and grape growing, which Hermann started almost 50 years ago. Each bottle is a product of its vintage and a snapshot of the time and place it was made.

Prelude to a tasting

Home to over 2,500 bottles of our wine dating all the way back to the early 80s, The Library is the setting for our private tasting experiences. These tasting are crafted by our wine team to showcase a vast array of styles from some of our most lauded, exceptional and age worthy vintages. Each flight includes five library wines as well as select current vintage comparisons and a traditional method sparkling welcome wine.

Throughout your 60 minute tasting you’ll be guided through the story of each wine, the vineyard or vineyards it’s sourced from, information on its winemaking and the evolution of that style over the years. Your wine educator is there to be your guide to not just our wine and winery but help you understand the wine in your glass in all its facets. We encourage you to be curious and ask questions throughout the tasting.

Barrel aged Riesling and sparkling wine awaiting disgorgement

As part of your experience you’ll get to tour our production facility and see for yourself where and how we make our wines. The late fall and winter seasons are great times to visit as fermentations are still actively bubbling away and tanks and barrels are full of wine awaiting bottling in the spring and summer.

At the heart of our winemaking facility lies The Library, which will be your private space for the length of your tasting. This temperature controlled room (which can be chilly so layering is encouraged!) is lined with rows of white oak shelving filled with our library wine. Though we can’t make every wine available to taste, we do have an expansive list of library wines available for purchase. Ask your wine educator to shop our list of currently available vintages.

This intimate nature of these tastings means they are reservation only and must be booked in advance of your visit. To check availability, please visit our reservations page:
